ASH Clinical Practice Guidelines on Venous Thromboembolism

The VTE Clinical Practice Guidelines for Latin America Development Process

Development of these guidelines is wholly funded by ASH, a non-profit medical specialty society that represents hematologists. Before and during appointment to the panel, individuals disclose both financial and nonfinancial interests. Conflicts of interest were managed through panel composition, disclosure, and recusal.

The panel selected questions from the original VTE guidelines that were deemed most clinically significant in Latin America.

Researchers conducted systematic reviews of intervention effects and searched for evidence related to baseline risks, values, preferences and costs. Panels then developed recommendations after summarizing findings within the GRADE Evidence-to-Decision (EtD) framework.

ASH partnered with 12 societies to adapt the ASH VTE Clinical Practice Guidelines for Latin America:

  • Associação Brasileira de Hematologia, Hemoterapia e Terapia Celular
  • Asociación Colombiana de Hematología y Oncología
  • Grupo Cooperativo Argentino de Hemostasia y Trombosis
